NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of most spices traded higher on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Tuesday. Contracts of coriander hit a fresh record high and extended gains for the third session Tuesday amid firm demand from bulk buyers.

At 1600 IST, the most active August contract of CORIANDER traded at INR 15,424 per 100 kilograms, up 0.4% from the previous close. The contract hit a fresh record high of INR 15,780 intraday, driven by firm demand from stockists and other bulk buyers amid tight supplies.

Total arrivals of coriander during the new season (Mar-Jun) remain low at 100,375 tonnes, down 25% on year, with May and June arrivals declining sharply by 52% and 30%, respectively, Sahu said, quoting Agmarknet data.

SMC Global Securities sees the contract rising further towards INR 15,678 levels, followed by INR 15,965 in the coming days. However, a decline to INR 15,211 is likely to test the immediate support of INR 14,924, followed by INR 14,457.

The most active July contract of JEERA traded 0.5% lower at INR 20,480 per 100 kg, after hitting an intraday high of INR 20,660. Prices fell slightly as supplies improved and buying declined at higher price levels. Jeera arrivals in Gujarat markets during Jan-Jun increased 13.6% on year to 241,720 tonnes, Riteshkumar Sahu, analyst at Kotak Neo, said, quoting Agmarknet data.

According to Sahu, prices are now approaching a crucial hurdle with immediate resistance of INR 20,665 placed at the confluence of the descending trendline. "Failure to overcome this level may trigger renewed selling pressure. Immediate support is placed at 20,275, followed by the psychological 20,000 level," he said. A decisive break below these supports could drag prices towards INR 19,750 and subsequently INR 19,000–INR 18,850, he added.

However, a sustained move above INR 20,665 could revive bullish momentum, opening the path towards INR 21,225, followed by INR 22,090 and INR 22,900, he added. "Overall, the near-term direction will depend on whether technical resistance is overcome despite the mixed supply-demand scenario."

The most active August contract of TURMERIC rose 0.2% to INR 17,148 per 100 kg, supported by sustained demand. "Turmeric prices may continue to trade firm...due to buying support following some initial corrections," SMC Global said.

The brokerage said the prospects of improved export demand to West Asia, along with steady buying from stockists and domestic processors, are expected to absorb the rising market supplies. "Average weekly arrivals across major mandis surged 257% on a week-on-week basis to 11,546 tonnes," SMC Global said.
