--Govt extends nil import duty on some petchem products till Jul 15
NEW DELHI – The government has extended the customs duty exemption on certain critical petrochemical products until Jul. 15, according to a gazette notification Tuesday. The temporary and targeted relief measure was initially implemented from Apr. 1 to Jun. 30 due to the war in West Asia.
On Jun. 18, Informist had reported that the government may extend the customs duty exemption on petrochemical products beyond the original deadline. The exemption ensured the continued availability of critical petrochemical inputs, the government had said.
Customs duty was exempted on 40 different products, including unsaturated polyester resins, acetic acid, dichloromethane, and vinyl chloride monomer.
In 2026-27 (Apr-Mar), the government aims to collect customs duty of INR 2.71 trillion, compared with INR 2.64 trillion raised in FY26. Crude oil prices surged due to the war in West Asia, driven by severe disruptions to the movement of critical energy resources through the Strait of Hormuz. End
