--Govt re-appoints  Ravi Agrawal as CBDT Chairman till Dec 31 

 

NEW DELHI – The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has reappointed Ravi Agrawal as the chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes for another six months till Dec. 31. Agrawal had assumed charge as the chairman of the direct tax body on Jul. 1, 2024. 

 

Agrawal is a 1988-batch Indian Revenue Service officer and had previously held the charge of a member of the Central Board of Direct Taxes.

 

As the chairman, Agrawal was a key architect behind the income tax bonanza announced in the Budget for 2025-26 (Apr-Mar). The government had hiked the tax rebate limit, effectively meaning those with incomes up to INR 1.2 million per annum are exempt from paying income tax. The move was aimed at increasing taxpayers' disposable income to spur demand.  End
