--Govt cuts silver base import price by $278/kg to $1,897/kg
MUMBAI – The government has cut the base import price of silver by $278 to $1,897 per kilogram, according to a notification issued by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs Monday. The base import price of gold has been left unchanged at $1,348 per 10 grams. The base import price of silver was last revised on Jun. 15. The revised base import price will come into effect from Tuesday, the notification said.
The government typically revises base import prices of the two precious metals every fortnight. These prices are used to calculate the duty on gold and silver that individuals bring into the country. India is one of the world's biggest importers of silver and the second-largest consumer of gold. End
