India received 8% below normal rainfall at 7.3 mm Monday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India recorded 7.3 millimetres of rainfall on Monday, 8% below the normal of 7.9 millimetres, data from the India Meteorological Department showed. During Jun. 1–29, the country recorded 92.2 millimetres of rain, 42% below the normal for the period.

 

Of the four homogenous regions in the country, two received above-normal precipitation, while the other two recorded below-normal rainfall, according to the data. Rainfall in south peninsula India was 47% above normal at 8.7 millimetres. The eastern parts of the region received substantial rainfall on Monday, with Telangana recording 197% above normal showers at 14.3 millimetres, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam receiving 146% above normal rainfall at 9.6 millimetres, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands recording 166% above normal showers at 29 millimetres. 

 

In east and northeast India, rainfall was 10% above normal at 14.4 millimetres, according to the data. Northwest India received 2.9 millimetres of precipitation, 44% below the normal of 5.2 millimetres, while rainfall in central India was 20% below normal at 7.1 millimetres.

 

In the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large deficient" in 12, "large excess" in seven, "normal" in seven, "excess" in five, and "deficient" in five, according to the data.  End
