NEW DELHI – The India Meteorological Department said conditions are favourable for the southwest monsoon trough to further advance and complete covering Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Bihar in the next two days. The monsoon trough is also likely to progress to some more parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand in the same period.
In the next 2-3 days, the monsoon trough is expected to cover the remaining parts of Gujarat and some parts of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Rajasthan. The northern limit of the monsoon remains in the same position as it was on Wednesday, passing through Surat in Gujarat, Indore and Mandla in Madhya Pradesh, Daltonganj in Jharkhand, and Motihari in Bihar, the department said.
In northwest India, the department said isolated "very heavy rainfall" is likely over Uttarakhand on Wednesday and Thursday, and over Himachal Pradesh on Thursday and Friday. For west India, IMD said that isolated very heavy rainfall is also likely over Konkan and Goa on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then during the weekend. Central Maharashtra is also expected to have similar rainfall conditions till Wednesday, and later during the weekend, as well as over Gujarat from Friday to Sunday.
In central India, similar rainfall conditions are likely over east and west Madhya Pradesh from Thursday to Saturday, and Vidarbha on Friday and Saturday.
In east India, IMD has forecast isolated "very heavy rainfall" over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Tuesday, Gangetic West Bengal on Sunday, Bihar till Wednesday, and Odisha from Wednesday to Saturday. For northeast India, IMD expects very heavy rainfall over parts of Assam and Meghalaya till Tuesday
In south India, IMD expects very heavy rainfall over Kerala and Mahe till Tuesday, coastal Karnataka from Tuesday to Sunday, and south interior Karnataka from Friday to Sunday.
Meanwhile, the department has issued heatwave warnings for isolated pockets in Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi till Tuesday, and said that hot and humid weather along with warm night conditions is likely over these pockets. End
