India received 38% below normal rainfall at 5 mm Sunday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India recorded 5 millimetres of rainfall on Sunday, 38% below the normal of 8 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1-28, the country received 85.2 millimetres of precipitation, 43% below the normal for the period.
All four homogenous regions in the country received below normal showers on Sunday, the data showed. Rainfall in northwest India was 57% below normal at 2 millimetres, while in south peninsula India, it was 45% below normal at 3.4 millimetres. In central India, rainfall was 43% below normal at 5.3 millimetres. East and northeast India received 11.8 millimetres of rainfall, 17% below the normal.
In the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large deficient" in 17, "deficient' in 10, "large excess" in three, "normal" in three, and "excess" in two. One subdivision, Saurashtra and Kutch, did not record any rainfall on Sunday, according to the data. End
