India April spices export down 29% YoY at 156,545 tn; jeera exports down 17%

MUMBAI – India's spices exports fell 29% in April to 156,545.04 tonnes from 219,665.88 tonnes same period a year ago, Spices Board of India data showed. In terms of value, exports of spices were up 2% on year at $39.25 billion.
India exported 17,265.16 tonnes of jeera in April, down 17% from the previous year, the data showed. Exports of ginger fell the most during April, 46% to 8,872.12 tonnes. Large cardamom exports in April were down 39% on year at 62.23 tonnes. Exports of chilli which fell 39% in April to 73,311.17 tonnes, the spices board said. Coriander exports fell 37% on year during April to 4,540.23 tonnes, according to the data.
Exports of other spices, which include asafoetida, cinnamon, cassia, cambodge, and saffron, fell 4% to 3,761.71 tonnes in April, according to the data. Fenugreek exports fell 44% on year to 2,763.31 tonnes and celery exports were down 11% to 398.63 tonnes, the data showed. Pepper exports fell 26% on year in April to 1,373.39 tonnes, it said. Garlic exports fell 39% on year to 3,602.41 tonnes, as per the data.
On other hand, exports of small cardamom rose a whopping 82% on year in April to 1,110.79 tonnes. Exports of nutmeg and mace rose 7% on year to 211.59 tonnes and exports of mint products, which include menthol, menthol crystals, and other mint oils, rose 23% on year to 2,246.43 tonnes, according to the data. Turmeric exports rose 1% on year to 15,039.21 tonnes in April.
