India received 29% below normal rainfall at 4.9 mm Wednesday, says IMD

NEW DELHI – India recorded 4.9 millimetres of rainfall on Wednesday, 29% below the normal of 6.9 millimetres, data from the India Meteorological Department showed. During Jun. 1–24, the country received 70 millimetres of rainfall, 42% below the normal of 119.9 millimetres.

 

Of the four subdivisions in the country, rainfall was largely deficient in two, while one division recorded deficient showers, and another received normal rain. Rainfall in central India was 15% above normal at 8.8 mm. On the other hand, east and northeast India got 39% below normal rainfall at 8.2 mm. Precipitation in northwest India was 70% below normal at 1.1 mm, and south peninsular India rainfall was 70% below normal at 1.7 mm. 

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, 15 received "large deficient" rainfall and 14 received "deficient" rainfall on Wednesday. Rainfall was "normal" in two subdivisions, "excess" in two, and "large excess" in three subdivisions, the weather department said.  End
