NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of all spices extended their fall on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Wednesday. Coriander prices corrected as traders continued to take profits. Weak demand at prevailing higher rates weighed jeera prices down.
The most active August contract of CORIANDER fell 1.2% to INR 14,610 per 100 kilograms, extending its fall for the second session after hitting a record high of INR 15,130 Tuesday.
"Coriander prices are expected to trade firm and move (in the) INR 14,720-INR 14,860 range, if it succeeds to sustain above the 14,600 level, given the background of better demand from spice processors and a sharp decline in mandi arrivals," SMC Global Securities said. Improving prospects of a recovery in export demand, coupled with tightening supplies, are likely to keep supporting market sentiment, it added.
However, if the contract slips beyond INR 14,600, the brokerage sees potential for a further downside to around INR 14,498. The contract may trend upwards and re-enter INR 15,000 level and even log in a fresh record high of INR 15,278 if it manages to climb to INR 14,888 on a closing basis, it added.
The most active July contract of JEERA declined 1.6% to INR 20,400 per 100 kg, weighed down by continued weak demand at prevailing rates and ample supplies. SMC Global sees the contract falling further to INR 20,323, as the INR 20,531 support level has been broken.
However, the contract may inch higher amid expectations of improved exports to West Asia as tensions in the region ease. "Arrivals across major mandis remained elevated, rising 97% week-on-week to 10,463 tonnes, but robust domestic demand is estimated to remain helpful in absorbing the increased supplies," SMC Global said.
The most active August contract of TURMERIC fell nearly 2% to INR 16,370 per 100 kg, as rising supplies weighed on market sentiment despite the expectation of improving export demand in the coming days. SMC Global said the contract might test INR 16,270 levels on the downside, before inching higher.
