MUMBAI – The southwest monsoon advanced over the remaining parts of Maharashtra, some parts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, and some more parts of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department said. Conditions are favourable for the monsoon trough to move further over more parts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, the remaining parts of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Bihar, and some parts of Uttar Pradesh in the next 2-3 days. In 2-3 days thereafter, conditions are favourable for the trough to advance over more parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, and some parts of Uttarakhand, the weather department said.

 

Currently, the monsoon trough passes through Surat in Gujarat, Indore and Mandla in Madhya Pradesh, Daltonganj in Jharkhand, and Motihari in Bihar, the department said. The presence of the active monsoon trough is likely to cause moderate to severe lightning over central and east India till Thursday, it said.

 

Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy showers is likely over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Saturday and Sunday, while very heavy rains are expected Monday, the weather bureau said. Very heavy rainfall is also likely over Jharkhand Sunday. Thundersqualls are expected over Jharkhand Thursday and over Bihar till Friday.

 

Very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Assam and Meghalaya from Friday to Sunday while heavy rainfall is expected over several parts of northwest India till Tuesday, the weather department said. Thundershowers, lightning, and gusty winds are also expected over these regions during this period, the department said.

 

Heavy rain is likely over parts of Vidarbha till Thursday and during the weekend, and over Chhattisgarh from Friday to Monday, the department said. Thundersqualls are expected over parts of Madhya Pradesh till Thursday. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are seen over multiple parts of central India till Sunday. 

 

Under the influence of several weather systems, including two which stretch till the Arabian Sea, very heavy rainfall is expected over Konkan and Goa on Saturday and heavy rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is seen over most parts of west India till Tuesday, the weather bureau said. Thundersqualls are likely over parts of central India and Marathwada till Thursday, the bureau said,

 

Heavy rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected to continue over the entire south peninsular India till Tuesday, the bureau said. Strong surface winds are likely over Karnataka till Friday.

 

In northwest India, heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Monday and Tuesday, the weather bureau said. Thundersqualls and dust storms are likely over parts of west Rajasthan till Thursday while a wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over many parts of northwest India till Tuesday.

 

Heatwave conditions are expected in pockets of Bihar till Thursday, northeast Madhya Pradesh on Thursday, and east Uttar Pradesh till Sunday, the bureau said.  End
