Monsoon Update; India received 34% below normal rainfall at 4.6 mm Tuesday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India recorded 4.6 millimetres of rainfall on Tuesday, 34% below the normal of 7.0 millimetres, data from the India Meteorological Department showed. During Jun. 1–23, the country received 65.2 millimetres of rainfall, 42% below the normal of 113 millimetres.
Out of the four subdivisions in the country, three recorded below normal rainfall, while one received above normal showers. Rainfall in south peninsular India was 6% above normal at 6.6 mm. On other hand, east and northeast India got 46% below normal rainfall at 7.5 mm. Precipitation in northwest India was 81% below normal at 0.6 mm on Tuesday. In central India, the rainfall was 25% below normal at 5.9 mm.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, 14 got 'large deficient' rainfall and 14 received 'deficient' rainfall on Tuesday. Rainfall was normal in one subdivision, 'excess' in two and 'large excess' in five subdivisions, the weather department said. End
