Up in Uttar Pradesh on firm demand from resale market traders

MUMBAI – Ex-mill prices of sugar rose in Uttar Pradesh as there was firm demand from traders in the resale markets, traders said. Mills were not in a hurry to meet the monthly sales quota, helping prices, they said. Mills in Maharashtra kept prices steady, after raising rates on the previous day, they said.

 

Mills in Uttar Pradesh raised prices by INR 5–INR 15 per 100 kg as there was firm demand from the resale market, Naresh Gupta, a trader from North India, said. Traders in the resale market have exhausted their stocks, he said. Mills were also not in a hurry to meet the monthly sales quota, Gupta said. P

 

During this month, prices have increased by about INR 50–INR 60 per 100 kg due to strong demand from bulk sugar consumers, such as ice-cream and cold-drink manufacturers, Gupta added. 

 

Mills in Maharashtra kept prices steady after raising rates by INR 10 per 100 kg the previous day, Mukesh Kuvadia, secretary of the Bombay Sugar Merchants Association, said. Mills had raised prices on Monday as demand improved due to high temperatures in the state. There is demand from ice cream and cold drink manufacturers, he said. 

 

The following are the highlights of sugar prices in the domestic market:

--Up INR 5-INR 15 at INR 4,035-INR 4,185 per 100 kg in western Uttar Pradesh

--Up INR 5-INR 15 at INR 4,040-INR 4,185 100 kg in central Uttar Pradesh

--Flat at INR 4,092-INR 4,182 per 100 kg in Mumbai

--Flat at INR 3,975-INR 3,990 per 100 kg in Kolhapur

 

At 1830 IST, the price of sugar on the Intercontinental Exchange was up 0.3% at 13.39 cents per pound. Prices rose amid concerns about lower global production linked to El Nio.  End
