NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of all spices on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange ended lower Tuesday. The coriander closed lower as traders booked profits after the contract hit a fresh record high earlier in the day. Turmeric contracts extended losses amid rising supplies and subdued demand at prevailing rates.

The most active August contract of CORIANDER fell nearly 2% to INR 14,764 per 100 kilograms. The contract ended down after hitting a record high of INR 15,130 earlier in the day. The aromatic spice has been logging fresh highs since Thursday, driven by firm domestic demand and expectations of increased exports to West Asia amid easing geopolitical tensions in the region.

SMC Global Securities sees further downside potential for the contract around INR 14,700, followed by INR 14,407. On the upside, resistance is seen at INR 15,430 if the contract surpasses INR 15,221 levels.

The most active July contract of JEERA declined 1% at INR 20,715 per 100 kg, as demand softened at higher rates. The contract fell after reaching a two-month high of INR 21,000 earlier in the day. SMC Global sees the contract falling further to INR 20,520, as the INR 20,730 support level has been breached.

The most active August contract of TURMERIC fell nearly 1% at INR 16,626 per 100 kg, weighed down by rising arrivals and tepid demand. However, improving export sentiment and expectations of improved domestic demand at lower prices are likely to support prices for the next few days, SMC Global said.

The brokerage sees the contract declining to INR 16,658, then to the INR 16,540 level. The brokerage expects the contract to pivot up around INR 16,768 and then move higher to INR 16,886.
