India rejects Pakistan claims of fuelling stir in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir

NEW DELHI – India Tuesday rejected Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif's allegations regarding the so-called "Indian proxies" fanning unrest in the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, with the Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal calling it "fabricated claims" and "desperate attempts by Pakistan to cover up its own failings".
"Such remarks are desperate attempts by Pakistan to cover up its own failings and deflect attention away from its human rights abuses. We categorically reject these fabricated claims with the contempt that they deserve," Jaiswal said in response to a media query.
The Pakistan defence minister, in a media byte last week, had accused the protesters in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir of "speaking India's language", and called the Kashmiris in the UK as "India's proxies" who were allegedly funding and fanning protests in the region.
"The ongoing protests in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir are a direct consequence of Pakistan's decades-long policy of systemic economic exploitation, denial of fundamental rights and administrative oppression in areas under its illegal and forcible occupation," Jaiswal said.
He said that the Pakistani state has responded with "extreme police brutality, blocking of essential supplies and medicines, internet blackouts", and use of lethal force against unarmed civilians in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
People are turning out in thousands in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to protest against soaring inflation, internet blackouts, and the issue of reserved seats for Kashmiri refugees in the Legislative Assembly. The demonstrations, spearheaded by Awami Action Committee, have attracted brutal police action. End
