NEW DELHI – India's cumulative fertiliser stock position as of Monday stood at 19.61 million tonnes, up 16.2% on year from the 16.87 million tonnes recorded during the corresponding period last year, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers said in a release. Of India's current fertiliser stock, 8.14 million tonnes is urea, 2.09 million is di-ammonium phosphate, and 5.59 million is nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.
India has also secured vital shipments of fertiliser to increase the country's fertiliser security, the ministry said. Four cargo ships carrying urea, DAP, and sulphur crossed the Strait of Hormuz last week, the ministry said. These vessels are headed to Krishnapatnam, Kakinada, Paradeep, and Mundra ports in India.
Total fertiliser sales from Mar. 1 and up to Monday reached 15.3 million tonnes, up from 14.02 million tonnes sold in the same period last year, the ministry said. "To protect Indian farmers against unpredictable global market shocks, the government maximized indigenous manufacturing capabilities alongside targeted import arrivals," the ministry said. "Post-crisis, domestic production scaled up significantly to achieve an impressive 133.12 LMT (13.31 million tonnes)."
India has also contracted 1.77 million tonnes of urea in its latest global tender evaluation. With this, India has tied up more than 9 million tonnes of urea, and phosphorus and potassium fertilisers from the global market for the ongoing kharif season, the ministry said. The government secured urea from Oman, Malaysia, Vietnam, Georgia, Nigeria, Russia, Finland, Egypt, Algeria, Turkey, and the Netherlands. While DAP and NPK streams were secured via the Red Sea shipping route from Russia, Morocco, Egypt, the US, Jordan, South Korea, Tunisia, and Saudi Arabia. End
