NEW DELHI – The Reserve Bank of India net sold $8.94 billion worth of dollars in the foreign exchange market in April, according to data released by the central bank Monday. The central bank had sold $9.76 billion on a net basis in March and $1.66 billion in April last year.
On a gross basis, the RBI bought $16.23 billion in April, down from $19.88 billion in the previous month. It sold $25.17 billion in April, lower than $29.64 billion in March.
The RBI bought and sold $2.12 billion each on a gross basis in the currency futures market in April, which resulted in a nil net position. In March, it had bought and sold $3.24 billion each in the currency futures market.
The RBI's net outstanding sales in the futures segment at the end of April were $940 million, down from sales of $1.40 billion in the previous month. End
