MCX iCOMDEX Composite index rises supported by bullion, base metal prices

MUMBAI – The iCOMDEX Composite index of the Multi Commodity Exchange of India rose in early trade Monday after opening marginally lower than Friday's close. The index opened at 23320.58 points against Friday's close of 23347.17 points. At 1059 IST, the index was up 0.4% at 23431.08 points.
Among the three components of the Composite index, the bullion index traded 0.7% higher, as gold rose 0.6% and silver 1% from the previous session's closing. Bullion prices rose as oil prices fell after Iran cited progress in US-Iran peace talks. The first round of talks between high-ranking US and Iranian officials in Switzerland ended Monday, with an Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson saying good progress has been made, Reuters reported citing Iran's Press TV. A joint statement from mediating nations Qatar and Pakistan said the US and Iran agreed to a road map towards a final deal within 60 days.
The energy index remained volatile with crude oil trading 1.8% lower while natural gas was trading 2.4% higher. The base metal index rose 0.2% with copper up 0.2%, zinc rising 0.2%, lead up 0.2%, and aluminium adding 0.2% to its previous closing.
The MCX iCOMDEX comprises a series of real-time commodity futures price indices and tracks the performance of a basket of commodity futures. It serves as a benchmark for market movements in bullion, base metals, and energy. End
