India received 51% below normal rainfall at 3.1 mm Sunday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India recorded 3.1 millimetres of rainfall on Sunday, 51% below the normal of 6.4 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1–21, the country received 57.4 millimetres of showers, 42% below normal.
Of the four homogenous regions in the country, only east and northeast India received above-normal rainfall, while the rest recorded below-normal precipitation. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 8% above normal at 13.1 millimetres, the data showed. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikinm recorded 44.2 millimetres of showers on Sunday, a whopping 201% above normal due to the presence of the active monsoon trough and another trough over and near the region.
In central India, rainfall was 84% below normal at 1.2 millimetres, according to the data. Rainfall in northwest India was 73% below normal at 0.8 millimetres, while in south peninsula India it was 62% below normal at 2 millimetres.
In the 36 subdivisions of the country, rainfall was "large deficient" in 25, "deficient" in four, "normal" in two, "excess" in two, and "large excess" in two. One subdivision, Himachal Pradesh, did not record any showers on Sunday. End
