India Jan-Apr tea exports down 15% on year at INR 21.31 bln, says Tea Board

MUMBAI – India exported tea worth INR 21.31 billion in Jan-Apr, 15.3% lower than INR 25.17 billion in the year ago period, according to provisional data released by Tea Board India. In volume terms, exports fell nearly 19% to 69.81 million kilograms during the period.
Exports from northern India fell nearly 14% on year to INR 14.72 billion in Jan-Apr. Exports from southern India fell 18.4% to INR 6.59 billion. In volume terms, exports from northern India fell 16% on year to 46.61 million kg, while those from southern India declined nearly 24% to 23.20 million kg.
The average price of tea exported from north India was INR 315.87 per kg in Jan-Apr, up from INR 308.10 per kg the year ago. The average price of tea exported from southern India rose to INR 283.92 per kg from INR 264.02 per kg a year ago, the data showed. The average unit price of tea exported from the country rose to INR 305.25 per kg in Jan-Apr from INR 292.39 per kg in the year-ago period, according to the data. End
