India recieved 64% below normal rainfall at 2.3 mm Thursday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 2.3 millimetres of rainfall on Thursday, 64% below the normal of 6.3 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1–18, the country recorded 48.5 millimetres of showers, which is 40% below the normal for the period.
All four homogenous regions recorded a shortfall in precipitation on Thursday. The southwest monsoon trough has remained stationary in the past few days amid unfavourable weather conditions, and its strength has waned over the parts it currently covers. Rainfall in south peninsula India was 47% below normal at 3 millimetres, the data showed. Northwest India received 56% below normal showers at 1.4 millimetres, while east and northeast India recorded 68% below normal rainfall at 4.2 millimetres. Rainfall in central India was 72% below normal at 1.8 millimetres.
In the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large deficient" in 25, "deficient" in five, "large excess" in two, "excess" in two, and "normal" in one. One subdivision did not record any rainfall on Thursday, according to the data. End
