MUMBAI – Heatwave conditions are likely in parts of central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha, and Telangana till Saturday, in east Uttar Pradesh till Saturday, and in west Uttar Pradesh from Friday to Saturday, the India Meteorological Department said. Hot and humid weather conditions are also likely in parts of Gangetic West Bengal till Friday, Odisha till Saturday, Konkan and Goa till Sunday, and Andhra Pradesh on Friday and Saturday, the weather department said.

 

The southwest monsoon trough remains in the same position as it was on Wednesday. The western branch of the trough has been stuck since Jun. 8, while the eastern arm has remained over the same region since Friday. Currently, the monsoon trough passes through Harnai and Solapur in Maharashtra, Hyderabad and Bhadrachalam in Telangana, Koraput and Phulbani in Odisha, Ranchi in Jharkhand, and Muzaffarpur and Jamui in Bihar, the weather department said. 

 

Conditions are favourable for further advancement of the trough over more parts of Telangana, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Bihar and some parts of Chhattisgarh over the next four to five days, the weather department said, but it is likely to remain stalled over west India. 

 

The presence of the active monsoon trough over east India is likely to cause very heavy rainfall over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Friday and from Sunday to Tuesday, the weather bureau said. Heavy rainfall is also likely over the same regions on Saturday and Wednesday, and over Bihar till Saturday. Thundersqualls are expected over Bihar and Odisha till Friday and over Jharkhand till Saturday, the bureau said. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely to persist over most parts of east India till Wednesday.

 

Very heavy rainfall is also likely over parts of Assam and Meghalaya on Monday, the weather department said. Heavy rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over several parts of northeast India till Wednesday, the department said.

 

Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected in multiple parts of west India till Wednesday and over central India till Monday, the weather bureau said. Thundersqualls are likely over parts of west Madhya Pradesh till Friday, the bureau said.

 

The presence of several weather systems over and near northwest India is likely to keep up heightened weather activities over the region, the bureau said. Thundersqualls are likely over parts of Rajasthan till Saturday, while hailstorms is expected over parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand till Friday and over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad till Saturday. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely to prevail over most of northwest India till Wednesday. Dust storms are likely over parts of west Rajasthan till Saturday, the bureau said.  End
