India Wednesday rainfall 2.3 mm, 63% below normal, says IMD

NEW DELHI – India recorded 2.3 millimetres of rainfall on Wednesday, 63% below the normal of 6.2 millimetres, data from the India Meteorological Department showed. During Jun. 1–17, the country received 46.2 millimetres of rainfall, 38% below the normal of 74.3 millimetres.
Of the four subdivisions, rainfall was 'large deficient' in two, 'deficient' in one, and 'normal' in one on Wednesday. Rainfall in South Peninsular India was 84?low normal at 1 mm, while in central India, it was 78% below normal at 1.4 mm. The rainfall in east and northeast India was 52?low normal at 5.6 mm. Precipitation in northwest India was 14% below normal at 2.4 mm on Wednesday. For subdivisions, rainfall above 80% of the long-period average is considered 'normal'.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, three received no rain, 22 got 'large deficient' rainfall, and five received 'deficient' rainfall on Tuesday. Rainfall was 'normal', 'excess' and 'large excess' in two subdivisions each, the weather department said. End
