MUMBAI – The presence of the active monsoon trough over eastern parts of India is likely to cause very heavy rainfall over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Monday, the India Meteorological Department said. The monsoon trough remains stalled in the same position as it was on Tuesday. Conditions are favourable for further advancement of the trough over more parts of Telangana, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Bihar and some parts of Chhattisgarh over the next four to five days, the weather department said, but it is likely to remain stalled over west India.
Currently, the monsoon trough passes through Harnai and Solapur in Maharashtra, Hyderabad and Bhadrachalam in Telangana, Koraput and Phulbani in Odisha, Ranchi in Jharkhand, and Muzaffarpur and Jamui in Bihar, the weather department said. The monsoon trough has been stuck over the western parts of the country since Jun. 8.
Heavy rainfall is also likely over sub-Himalayan Bengal and Sikkim on Tuesday, over Bihar till Saturday, and over Odisha on Friday, the weather bureau said. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected to continue over most parts of east India till Tuesday, the bureau said.
The monsoon trough is also expected to cause very heavy rainfall over Assam and Meghalaya till Tuesday and heavy rainfall over most parts of northeast India till Wednesday, the weather department said. Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected over these regions during the same period.
In south India, heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry till Sunday, and over Kerala on Thursday and from Sunday to Tuesday, the department said. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely over multiple parts of south peninsula India till Tuesday.
Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely over parts of Madhya Pradesh till Friday, over Vidarbha till Sunday, over Konkan, Goa, and Marathwada on Thursday and Friday, and over central Maharashtra till Thursday, the weather bureau said.
Heightened weather activities are likely to continue over several parts of northwest India due to the presence of multiple weather systems over and near the region, the bureau said. Thundersqualls are likely over parts of Rajasthan on Thursday and Friday, while hailstorm is expected over parts of Himachal Pradesh till Friday and over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on Thursday and Friday. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely to prevail over most of northwest India till Tuesday. Dust storms are likely over parts of west Rajasthan till Friday, the bureau said.
Heatwave conditions are likely to persist over parts of Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha till Sunday, over Uttar Pradesh till Monday, and over central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Telangana till Friday, the weather department said. Hot and humid conditions are expected in pockets of Andhra Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha till Thursday and over Konkan and Goa till Friday, the department said. End
