MCX iCOMDEX Composite trades lower, dragged down by component indices

MUMBAI – The iCOMDEX Composite index of the Multi Commodity Exchange of India traded lower Tuesday, dragged down by a fall in all the three component indices. The index opened at 24320.09 points, slightly higher than Monday's close of 24306.59 points. At 1148 IST, the index was down 0.5% at 24181.25 points.
Among the three components of the Composite index, the bullion index traded 0.2% lower, as gold declined 0.1% and silver 0.7% from the previous day's closing. Bullion prices fell as market participants cautiously await further details on the US-Iran peace deal. US President Donald Trump said on Monday that a preliminary agreement to end the war in the Gulf had been signed by the US and Iran, though details are yet to be made public, and both countries said a permanent truce is yet to be negotiated, Reuters reported.
Investors will also remain cautious ahead of the US Federal Reserve's monetary policy decision, scheduled to be announced Wednesday, the first policy meeting under the leadership of Kevin Warsh.
The energy index was down 0.1%, with crude oil trading 0.1% lower and natural gas down 2.3%. The base metal index fell 0.8% with copper down 0.7% and zinc down 0.8%. Aluminium was trading 1.2% lower while lead was down 0.2%.
The MCX iCOMDEX comprises a series of real-time commodity futures price indices and tracks the performance of a basket of commodity futures. It serves as a benchmark for market movements in bullion, base metals, and energy. End
