NEW DELHI – India's soymeal exports are estimated to have fallen nearly 64% on year to 50,000 tonnes in May, and over 40% on year to 872,000 tonnes during Oct-May, according to the Soybean Processors Association of India. Shipments declined amid an 11% on-year fall in domestic soymeal production in May and a nearly 8?cline during Oct-May. 

 

Soymeal is produced during the extraction of soyoil by crushing soybeans. SOPA estimated that about 500,000 tonnes of soybeans arrived in markets across the country in May, down 16% on year from 600,000 tonnes a year ago. About 800,000 tonnes of soybeans were crushed during the month, down from 900,000 tonnes a year ago, it added. 

 

During Oct-May, soybean arrivals fell over 13% on year to 7.25 million tonnes, and crushing fell 8% on year to 7.3 million tonnes. India produced 631,000 tonnes of soymeal in May and 5.76 million tonnes over the eight months. 

 

For the oilseeds year 2025-26 (Oct-Sept), India's soybean production is estimated at 11.0 million tonnes, down from 12.9 million tonnes last year, according to data from SOPA. The association expects about 10.4 million tonnes of soybeans to be available for crushing during the year, with some 1 million tonnes retained for sowing and 500,000 tonnes consumed. 

 

The association has projected soymeal exports to fall to 1.1 million tonnes in 2025-26 from 2.0 million tonnes last year. Consumption demand is estimated at 800,000 tonnes, while feed demand is seen at 6.2 million tonnes.

 

Soymeal is primarily used as poultry and livestock feed. Indian soymeal is not genetically modified and is rich in protein, making it attractive in global feed markets. However, competition from cheaper alternatives such as distiller's dried grains with solubles has weighed on exports. India is among the largest importers of soyoil and an exporter of soymeal.
