MUMBAI – Global coffee prices declined in May as the market continued to react to news of an improved supply outlook, according to the International Coffee Organisation. The organisation's composite indicator averaged 256.05 cents per pound, down nearly 3.8% from April, according to its May report. The positive outlook was reinforced by CONAB's reaffirmation of a record production in Brazil in 2026-27, according to the organisation.

 

The prices of Colombian Milds and Other Milds contracted by 3.3% and 4.8% from April, averaging 323.45 cents per pound and 315.42 cents per pound in May, respectively. The price of Brazilian Naturals fell 6.4% to 293.73 cents per pound in May. In the same month, the Robustas rose 1.1% to 166.51 cents per pound.

 

The Colombian Milds–Other Milds differential increased from 3.34 to 8.03 cents per pound between April and May. The arbitrage between the London and New York futures markets contracted by 13.1% to 116.39 cents per pound in May, emphasising, in particular, the improving prospects for Arabica production in Brazil, it said.

 

In April, global green bean exports totalled 10.51 million bags, down 1.9% from 10.71 million bags a year ago. Export of all coffee groups, except for the Robustas, fell in April, according to the report. Green bean exports of the Robustas rose 11.2% on year to 4.5 million bags in April, it said. Exports of Colombian Milds declined 14.0% on year in April to 780,000 bags. 

 

Shipments of the Other Milds declined 1.1% on year to 2.31 million bags in April. Green bean exports of the Brazilian Naturals fell by 14.8% in April. As a result, Arabica's share of total green bean exports for the first seven months of the 2025-26 coffee year fell to 60.4% from 64.2% over the same period a year ago.

 

Global exports of all forms of coffee fell by 0.9% on year to 12.05 million bags in April. Exports of all forms of coffee from Asia & Oceania rose 7.3% to 4.64 million bags. Exports of all forms of coffee from Africa declined 22.1% on year to 1.54 million bags in April. South America's exports of all coffee varieties fell 1.2% to 3.99 million bags in April, the report said.

 

From the Caribbean, Mexico & Central America, exports of all forms of coffee increased by 3.3% on year to 1.88 million bags in April. Green beans were the largest coffee export category, accounting for 86.3% of total exports in the first seven months of the 2025-26 coffee year, while soluble and roasted coffee accounted for 13.1% and 0.5%, respectively, according to the report.

 

Total exports of soluble coffee increased by 6.5% to 1.48 million bags in April from 1.39 million bags a year ago. Vietnam, Brazil and India were the largest exporters of soluble coffee in April, shipping 490,000 bags, 380,000 bags, and 250,000 bags, respectively. Exports of roasted beans were down 7.3% on year in April, reaching 60,000 bags, the report said.  End
