MUMBAI – The iCOMDEX Composite index of the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was volatile in early trade Monday, as gold prices rose even as crude prices fell significantly. The index had opened at 24104.33 points, down from Friday's close of 24230.54 points, but rose thereafter. At 1118 IST, the index was up 0.5% at 24357.93 points.

Among the three composite index, the bullion index rose 2% as gold gained 2% and silver climbed 3%. Bullion prices rose after US and ‌Iran officials said they had reached an initial agreement to end their war, pushing oil prices lower and easing concerns about inflation and higher interest rates. On Sunday, the US and Iranian officials said they had agreed on a framework to end their war, halt the US blockade of Iran, and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The Secretariat of Iran's Supreme National Security Council said the deal with the US includes the immediate suspension of hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon, and an end to the US's naval blockade on Iranian ports. Pakistani Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif said the peace deal would be signed in Switzerland on Friday.

The energy index was down 5%, with crude oil trading 5.3% lower and natural gas down 2.3%. The base metal index rose 0.6% with copper up 0.8%, zinc rising 0.8%, and lead up 0.2%. However, aluminium was trading 0.2% lower.
