MUMBAI – The iCOMDEX Composite index of the Multi Commodity Exchange of India traded higher Friday after opening lower from Thursday's close. The index opened at 24017.59 points against Thursday's close of 24050.53 points. At 1102 IST, the index was up 0.4% at 24152.90 points.
Among the three components of the Composite index, the bullion index rose 1% as gold gained 0.8% and silver climbed 1.4%. Bullion prices rose due to growing optimism surrounding a potential peace agreement between the US and Iran, which helped ease concerns over prolonged inflationary pressure and aggressive monetary tightening. The US President, Donald Trump said he has cancelled a third consecutive day of strike on Iran, claiming that a deal with Tehran is close to being finalised and a "time and place of the signing" are "to be announced shortly," Al Jazeera reported.
The energy index was down 1.6%, with crude oil trading 2% lower and natural gas 0.3% down. The base metal index rose 0.4% with copper up 0.8%, zinc rising 0.2%, lead up 0.2%, and aluminium adding 0.1%.
The MCX iCOMDEX comprises a series of real-time commodity futures price indices and tracks the performance of a basket of commodity futures. It serves as a benchmark for market movements in bullion, base metals, and energy. End
