MUMBAI – The US Department of Agriculture has forecast global oilseed production in 2026-27 (May-Apr) at 718.18 million tonnes, slightly higher than 718.10 million tonnes projected in May, according to its World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report for June.

Production of oilseeds in countries excluding the US is estimated at 587.81 million tonnes, a tad up from 587.72 million tonnes seen in May. The output estimate for the US in 2026-27 is unchanged at 130.38 million tonnes. Global ending stocks of oilseeds in 2026-27 are estimated at 146.99 million tonnes, up from 146.73 million tonnes projected last month, according to the department. Global trade of oilseeds is also pegged to be marginally higher at 217.03 million tonnes from 217.10 million tonnes seen last month.

The department has pegged global soybean production at 441.34 million tonnes, down from 441.54 million tonnes estimated in the previous month, mainly due to a fall in harvested area in Russia. Global beginning stocks are revised upwards at 125.52 million tonnes from 125.13 million tonnes last month due to higher production in Argentina in the previous marketing year, which is raised by 2 million tonnes to 50 million tonnes.

Global exports of soybean are projected at 189.22 million tonnes, unchanged from May, as lower exports from Russia are offset by higher exports from Argentina. Ending stocks of soybean across the globe are estimated at 124.88 million tonnes, up from 124.78 million tonnes due to higher stocks in Argentina, the department said.

The estimate of soybean meal production in India in 2025-26 is left unchanged at 8.0 million tonnes. India is one of the largest importers of soy oil and an exporter of soybean meal.

The department pegs global output of major vegetable oils, which includes palm, sunflower seed, soybean, and rapeseed, at 244.13 million tonnes, slightly higher than 244.07 million tonnes seen in the previous month.  End
