Govt pegs 2025-26 horticulture output at 377.78 mln tn, up 2% on year

MUMBAI- The country's horticulture crop output in 2025-26 (Jun-Jul) has been pegged at 377.78 million tonnes, nearly 2% higher on year, according to the second advance estimate released by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Thursday. The country's horticulture output was at 370.74 million tonnes in 2024-25. The second advance estimate for horticulture output is around 6.93 million tonnes higher than the first advance estimate.
The total vegetable output in 2025-26 has been pegged at 221.0 million tonnes, up 1.5% on year. The rise is likely due to a rise in output of potato, tomato, okra, peas, cauliflower, and bottlegaurd, the department said. Onion production for the year is seen at 30.74 million tonnes, lower from 30.77 million tonnes produced in the previous year. Potato output is projected at 59.89 million tonnes, up 2.3% from 58.57 million tonnes a year before. Tomato output has been pegged at 21.46 million tonnes, up 4.2% from 20.60 million tonnes a year ago, according to the estimates.
The government has estimated spices output at 12.66 million tonnes for the year. An increase in production is seen in garlic, turmeric, curry leaf and fenugreek, it said.
The total output of fruits in 2025-26 has been pegged at 121.48 million tonnes, up 3.3% from 117.65 million tonnes in the previous year. The estimated increase is due to a rise in the production of banana, mango, papaya, apple, and guava.
