NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of all spices traded on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange closed lower on Thursday. Prices of turmeric fell amid rising supplies and a higher production outlook, while limited demand continued to weigh on jeera.
The most-active June contract of JEERA fell 0.5% to INR 19,055 per 100 kilograms, as large buyers continued to limit demand to meet just the immediate requirements amid ample stocks in the markets. Increased arrivals of the new crop from Rajasthan have eased the earlier concerns over supply tightness, Kedia Advisory said.
The most active August contract of TURMERIC fell 0.1% to INR 16,138 per 100 kg amid rising arrivals and expectations of increased sowing in the kharif season. According to market estimates, turmeric acreage is likely to expand 5–8% to 317,000-320,000 hectares as prices for the rhizome are currently remunerative.
The most active August contract of CORIANDER fell 0.8% to INR 13,020 per 100 kg. SMC Global Securities expects the contract to trade rangebound between INR 13,060 and INR 13,200 before moving directionally to either side. Though weak export demand at prevailing rates is likely to cap the rise, declining arrivals in major markets are expected to provide support to prices, it added.
The following were the closing prices of the most active spice contracts on Thursday:
Contract | Exchange | Unit (kg) | Price (INR) | Change (INR) |
Coriander Aug | NCDEX | 100 | 13,020 | -108 |
Jeera June | NCDEX | 100 | 19,055 | -100 |
Turmeric Aug | NCDEX | 100 | 16,138 | -12 |
