MUMBAI – The presence of a western disturbance in the northwest of the country along with several other weather systems over and near northwest India are likely to keep up heightened weather activity across the region till Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department said. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected to persist over most parts of the region till Wednesday, while hailstorms are likely over most parts of the region till Friday, the weather department said.
Thundersqualls with wind speed reaching 50–60 kilometres per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are likely over most parts of northwest India till Saturday, the weather department said. Heavy rainfall is likely over Uttarakhand till Friday and dust storms are expected to continue over parts of Rajasthan till Sunday, the department said.
The southwest monsoon advanced further into more parts of Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal, the remaining parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, and some parts of Bihar on Thursday, the weather bureau said. Currently, the monsoon trough passes through Harnai and Solapur in Maharashtra, Hyderabad and Bhadradri Kothagudem in Telangana, Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, Raiganj in West Bengal, and Madhubani in Bihar, the bureau said.
Conditions are favourable for the monsoon trough to move further over the remaining parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh, some more parts of West Bengal and Bihar, and some parts of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh in the next two to three days, the bureau said.
Very heavy showers are expected over parts of Kerala till Friday and over coastal Karnataka on Friday, the weather department said. Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightening, and gusty winds are likely over multiple parts of south peninsula India till Monday, the department said. Similar weather is expected to continue over several parts of east India till Wednesday, it said.
Thundersqualls are likely over parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha till Saturday and over Jharkhand till Sunday, the weather bureau said.
In northeast India, very heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Arunachal Pradesh on Friday and Saturday, and over Assam and Meghalaya till Saturday, the bureau said. Heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is likely over most parts of northeast India till Wednesday.
Hailstorms and thundersqualls are expected over parts of Madhya Pradesh on Friday, the weather bureau said. Thundersqualls are also likely over Vidarbha on Friday and Saturday and over Chhattisgarh till Friday. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over most parts of central India till Wednesday, the bureau said. Similar weather is likely over Konkan and Goa on Friday and Saturday, central Maharashtra till Sunday, and Marathwada till Saturday.
Heatwave conditions are expected to persist over parts of Andhra Pradesh and Vidarbha till Friday and over Telangana till Saturday, the weather department said. Hot and humid weather conditions are likely in pockets of Konkan and Goa till Saturday and over central Maharashtra till Friday, the department said. End
