NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of all spices traded on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange gained on Tuesday. Jeera extended gains for the fourth session as buying interest remained strong at lower price levels.

The most-active June contract of JEERA rose 0.3% to INR 19,180 per 100 kilograms amid sustained demand at lower price levels. Despite rising for four straight sessions, jeera prices are ruling 18?low the January's close of INR 23,570.

"Jeera futures is predicted to get support at prevailing prices and may hover between INR 19,020–INR 19,720, supported by the emergence of buying interest at lower prices," SMC Global Securities said. However, market participation remains largely cautious as buyers continue to adopt a hand-to-mouth approach amid ample availability of stocks, it added.

The most active June contract of TURMERIC rose 1% at INR 15,630 per 100 kg amid renewed buying interest in the market. However, gains were limited amid ample supplies and expectations of increased sowing in the kharif season.

"Market sources indicate that turmeric acreage in the upcoming season is likely to expand 5–8% to 3.17–3.20 lakh (317,000-320,000) hectares, supported by remunerative prices realized by farmers with production projected at around 11.98 lakh (1.19 million) tonnes,"  SMC Global Securities said. For further cues on output, the market will track the progress and spatial distribution of the southwest monsoon amid forecasts of below-normal rainfall and El Nino conditions, it added.

The most-active June contract of CORIANDER rose 1.5% to INR 12,710 per 100 kg amid improved demand. However, weak export demand at prevailing rates also weighed on prices. SMC Global expects the contract to trade higher in the range of INR 12,810–INR 12,950 in the coming days amid concerns about tight supplies.
