MUMBAI – Mustard seed prices fell in Jaipur as demand was subdued after sharp rate increases earlier but rose in Kota, traders said. Soybean prices fell in Kota but were steady in Ratlam, they said. Groundnut prices were steady in key markets, they added.

MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, fell by INR 73 per 100 kilograms to INR 7,925-INR 7,950 owing to sluggish demand at higher price levels, traders at the Marudhar Trading Agency said. With crushers more keen to buy domestic oilseeds rather than rely on higher-priced imported crude edible oils, mustard seed prices had increased significantly over the past few months, the traders said. Arrivals across the country were at 500,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down from 600,000 bags the previous day.

In Kota, Rajasthan, mustard seed prices rose by INR 175 to INR 7,900 per 100 kg as arrivals were lower, Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader, said. Mustard seed arrivals in Kota were at 16,000 bags, down 1,000 bags from the previous day, he said.

SOYBEAN prices in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 3,325-INR 7,850 per 100 kg after rising significantly last month, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals were at 3,600 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), the same as the previous day, he said. In Kota, soybean prices tumbled by INR 700 to INR 6,800 per 100 kg as demand was sluggish at high prices, Sameriya said. Arrivals totalled 14,000 bags, up 2,000 bags from the previous day.

GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 3,350-INR 8,450 per 100 kg, traders said. Arrivals were at 3,200 bags (1 bag = 30 kg), the same as the previous day, they said.
