NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of jeera on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange rose more Monday, as renewed demand emerged at lower price levels. Turmeric prices fell slightly due to rising supplies, and coriander prices declined a tad amid weak export demand at prevailing rates.

The most-active June contract of JEERA rose 0.5% to INR 19,105 per 100 kilograms, as some buying interest has reportedly been generated at lower prices following a steep fall in the recent past. The contract has been gaining since it hit an over six-month low of INR 18,710 on Wednesday.

"However, market participation remained largely cautious as buyers continued to adopt a hand-to-mouth approach amid ample availability of stocks," SMC Global Securities said. Jeera arrivals in May were 45% higher on year at 47,185 tonnes, it added.

The most active June contract of TURMERIC was down 0.1% at INR 15,444 per 100 kg, weighed down by arrival pressure in major markets. However, a recovery in export demand from some countries limited losses. "Demand from Bangladesh and increasing inquiries for Integrated Pest Management certified turmeric from European buyers continue to support sentiment," Kedia Advisory said.

The most-active June contract of CORIANDER fell 0.1% to INR 12,506 per 100 kg amid subdued export demand and comfortable domestic supplies. Export demand remains weak at prevailing rates. Though coriander prices have eased from the record high of INR 13,798 seen in April, they remain high. Coriander had last traded around INR 13,500 per 100 kg in June 2015.

However, the losses were limited due to tight supplies. Coriander arrivals across major mandis fell 48% on year to 14,425 tonnes in May amid lower production, SMC Global Securities said.
