--RBI: Gold reserves as on May 29 $112.60 bln, down $2.19 bln on week 

--RBI: India May 29 FX assets $546.15 bln, up $3.12 bln on week 

MUMBAI - The value of the Reserve Bank of India's gold holdings fell $2.19 billion on week to $112.60 billion as of May 29, data released by the central bank Friday showed. At the post-policy press conference earlier Friday, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said that the central bank has not sold gold and that its gold holdings have risen marginally. The RBI Wednesday denied media reports suggesting that it sold gold reserves worth $12 billion in the fortnight ended May 22.

As Malhotra said earlier Friday, India's foreign exchange reserves were $682.32 billion as of May 29, up $938 million on week. Foreign currency assets rose $3.12 billion on week to $546.15 billion as of May 29. The Indian currency rose 0.7% against the dollar in the week ended May 29. 

Calculated in dollar terms, the RBI's foreign exchange reserves also reflect the impact of appreciation or depreciation of currencies other than the dollar, such as the euro, the pound sterling, and the yen held by the central bank.  End
