India Apr tea production up nearly 5% YoY at 104.28 mln kg, says Tea Board

MUMBAI – Tea production in India rose nearly 5% on year to 104.28 million kilograms in April, according to provisional data released by Tea Board India. The country had produced 99.40 million kg of tea a year ago. During Jan-Apr, India produced 201.89 million kg of tea of different varieties, according to the data.

 

In April, tea production in north Indian states rose to 85.34 million kg from 76.94 million kg a year ago. Production in south India was down 15.6% on year at 18.94 million kg, the tea board said.

 

In north India, tea output from Assam rose to 55.41 million kg from 41.49 million kg recorded a year ago. Output in the Assam Valley rose to 52.58 million kg from 38.63 million kg a year ago. Production in West Bengal fell to 27.16 million kg from 33.0 million kg a year ago.

 

In south India, Tamil Nadu reported 12.5% lower tea production at 14.49 million kg in April compared to 16.57 million kg a year ago.  End
