MUMBAI – Indonesia has centralised its export system for palm oil, coal, and ferro alloys, according to various media reports. The new system will be administered by the new state-owned entity Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia.

The implementation of the centralised export system is being caried out in phases. The process began Jun. 1 and is expected to be completed by Jan. 1, as per reports quoting Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.

Although exporters will be allowed to export these products on their own during the transition period, they will need to report all export activities to the new organisation.

The government plans to review the policy after the first three months of implementation before proceeding to the next phase, according to the reports. Once the system is fully operational, Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia will move beyond its initial role as a reporting and transaction-monitoring body and begin purchasing export commodities domestically before marketing them to international buyers, Hartarto said.

On May 20, Indonesia had announced its intention to bring exports of "strategic" commodities under a centralised system. India is one of the world's highest importers of palm oil, mainly from Indonesia and Malaysia.  End
