MUMBAI – Oilseed prices were steady in the key markets of the country due to need-based demand at higher prices, traders said. Most domestic oilseed prices have increased significantly in the past two months. The surge can be attributed to higher demand as millers and refiners are reluctant to buy high-priced imported crude edible oils, they said.

MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, were steady at INR 8,075-INR 8,100 per 100 kg as demand was need-based at higher prices, traders at Marudhar Trading Agency said. Arrivals across the country were at 650,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the same as the previous day.

In Kota too, mustard seed prices were steady at INR 7,700 per 100 kg as demand was need-based, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Mustard seed arrivals in Kota were at 17,000 bags, up 1,000 bags from the previous day, he said.

As crushers were keen on buying domestic oilseeds instead of relying on imported crude edible oils, prices increased significantly in the past few months, traders said. But now, at higher rates, demand has slowed down, they added.

SOYBEAN prices in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 3,325-INR 7,850 per 100 kg after rising significantly during the week amid firm demand, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals were at 3,600 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), the same as the previous day, he said.

In Kota, soybean prices were steady at INR 7,450 per 100 kg as demand was subdued, Sameriya said. Arrivals were at 14,000 bags, up 1,000 bags from the previous day.

GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 3,350-INR 8,450 per 100 kg, traders said. Arrivals were at 3,200 bags (1 bag = 30 kg), the same as the previous day, they said.
