India FY26 spices exports decline 6% to $4.4 bln; volumes down 4%

NEW DELHI – India's spices exports declined 4% on year in volume terms and 6% on year in value terms in 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) amid lower shipments of chilli, cumin, and turmeric, the Spices Board India of data showed. India shipped 1.73 million tonnes of spices worth $4.43 billion in FY26. 

 

India's chilli exports during FY26 fell by over 4% on year to 683,681 tonnes, while the value declined by 12% on year to $1.18 billion, according to the data. Chilli is India's top spice export both in value and volume terms.

 

Jeera export value fell by 28% on year to $524 million, while volume fell 14% on year to 196,800 tonnes. Tumeric exports performed relatively better, falling by just 0.2% on year to 175,896 tonnes, while export value declined 4% on year to $327 million. 

 

Small cardamom exports were robust in FY26, rising by 124% on year in both volume and value terms to 15,050 tonnes and $413 million, respectively. Large cardamom shipments were also strong, rising 28% on year to 1,753 tonnes and 31% on year to $36 million, according to the data.

 

Other major spice products that registered increases in volume and value terms were ginger and curry powder or paste. Ginger exports rose 11% on year to 146,257 tonnes, with the value rising 15% on year to $143 million.

 

Exports of pepper and coriander were mixed, with volumes declining but value rising in FY26. While pepper shipments fell 5% on year to 19,806 tonnes, their value rose 11% on year to $138 million. Coriander exports fell marginally to 60,211 tonnes, but value rose 3% on year to $77 million, according to the data.
