MUMBAI – The iCOMDEX Composite index of the Multi Commodity Exchange of India rose in early trade Wednesday. The index opened at 25810.96, largely unchanged from Tuesday's close of 25810.06 points. At 1104 IST, the index was up 0.1% at 25828.08 points.
Among the three components of the Composite index, the bullion index traded 0.1% lower, as gold declined 0.1% and silver fell 0.3% from the previous day's closing. The bullion index in the morning trade was moving between gains and losses in volatile trade. Bullion prices opened lower Wednesday, tracking global prices. Prices fell as renewed hostilities in West Asia pushed crude oil prices higher, cementing fears about inflation and prospects of interest rate hikes. The US military said it has launched "self-defence" strikes on Iran and shot down ballistic missiles and drones fired at ships and Gulf countries, the BBC reported. Iran said it had attacked US bases and helicopters in a "regional country" using missiles and drones in retaliation, the report said.
The energy index was up, with crude oil trading 2% higher and natural gas trading 0.4% higher. The base metal index was up 0.4%, supported by copper, which was up 0.2%, and also zinc, which was up 0.5%. Lead was up 0.1% and aluminium was up 0.4%.
