MUMBAI – The iCOMDEX Composite index of the Multi Commodity Exchange of India rose in early trade Tuesday after opening marginally higher from Monday's close. The index opened at 25659.74 points against Monday's close of 25657.55 points. At 1100 IST, the index was up 0.5% at 25775.75 points.
Among the three components of the Composite index, the bullion index traded 0.3% higher, as gold rose 0.2% and silver rose 0.4%. Bullion prices rose amid lower US Treasury yields. The yield on the benchmark 10-year US Treasury note ticked lower, reducing the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding bullion. Prices also rose due to a partial ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel.
On Monday, Lebanon announced a partial ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel, in what would amount to a limited de-escalation of the conflict that has killed thousands of people and inflamed the broader war with Iran, Reuters reported. US President Donald Trump said he has asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to pull his troops back from Lebanon's capital, Beirut, and also spoke with Hezbollah representatives, who "agreed to stop shooting" at Israeli forces, Al Jazeera reported.
The energy index was down 0.4%, with crude oil trading 0.4% lower while natural gas was up 0.4%. The base metal index was up 0.5%, supported by copper, which was up 0.2%, and also zinc, which was up 0.6%. Lead was up 0.1% and aluminium was up 0.8%.
The MCX iCOMDEX comprises a series of real-time commodity futures price indices and tracks the performance of a basket of commodity futures. It serves as a benchmark for market movements in bullion, base metals, and energy. End
