MUMBAI – Mustard seed prices fell in Jaipur because demand was limited at higher prices. Prices of mustard seed in Kota rose. Soybean prices in Kota also rose, but soybean prices in Ratlam were steady, as were groundnut prices in key markets, traders said. Most domestic oilseed prices have increased significantly in the past two months. The surge can be attributed to an increase in demand as millers and refiners are reluctant to buy high-priced imported crude edible oils, they said.
MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, fell by INR 25 to INR 8,025-INR 8,050 per 100 kg as demand was limited at higher rates, traders at the Marudhar Trading Agency said. Arrivals across the country were at 700,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the same as the previous day, they said.
In Kota, also in Rajasthan, mustard seed prices rose INR 150 to INR 7,800 per 100 kg as demand was firm amid lower arrivals, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Mustard seed arrivals in Kota were at 18,000 bags, down 1,000 bags from the previous day, he said.
Crushers are keen on buying domestic oilseeds instead of relying on imported crude edible oils, traders said. Prices rose as there was good demand from major cooking oil manufacturing companies, they added.
SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 3,325-INR 7,850 per 100 kg after rising significantly during the week amid firm demand, Narendra Porwal, a local trader, said. Arrivals were at 3,600 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), same as the previous day, he said.
In Kota, soybean prices rose by INR 30 to INR 7,480 per 100 kg as demand was firm amid lower arrivals, Sameriya said. Arrivals were at 14,000 bags, down 2,000 bags from the previous day.
GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 3,350-INR 8,450 per 100 kg, traders said. Arrivals were at 3,200 bags (1 bag = 30 kg), the same as the previous day, they said.
