NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of most spices traded on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange ended down Monday. Jeera prices extended their fall and hit a seven-month low amid rising arrivals from Rajasthan and limited demand. Ample availability and weak demand for average quality arrivals continued to weigh on the price of turmeric.

The most-active June contract of JEERA was down 0.8% at INR 19,050 per 100 kilograms on ample supply and subdued trading. The contract extended its fall for the fourth session Monday and hit a seven-month low of INR 18,910 amid rising crop arrivals from Rajasthan and limited demand.

"Market participation remained largely cautious as buyers continued to adopt a hand-to-mouth approach amid ample availability of stocks," SMC Global Securities said. The brokerage sees support for jeera prices at INR 18,850 per 100 kg and resistance at INR 19,550 per 100 kg.

The most-active June contract of TURMERIC was down 0.3% at INR 16,146 per 100 kg. Turmeric prices have been falling for three days amid rising arrivals and weak demand for poor-quality produce. "Increased arrivals of late-harvested, high-moisture turmeric have led to aggressive price discounting for average quality lots," Kedia Advisory said.

In addition, farmers are liquidating stocks more rapidly to meet upcoming kharif sowing expenses, resulting in immediate high supplies, the advisory firm added. Despite higher arrivals, SMC Global expects turmeric prices to move in the range of INR 15,790–INR 16,590 with a firm undertone, supported by fresh buying interest at lower levels.

The most-active June contract of CORIANDER was up 0.3% at INR 12,872 per 100 kg. "The upside may remain limited going ahead due to the absence of major festive demand in the near term and subdued export enquiries amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle-East, which continue to disrupt overseas demand," SMC Global said.
