MUMBAI – The iCOMDEX Composite index on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India rose in early trade Monday after opening marginally higher from Friday's close. The index opened at 25578.92 points against Friday's close of 25568.82 points. At 1015 IST, the index was up 0.1% at 25584.46 points.

Among the three components of the Composite index, the bullion index traded 0.7% lower as gold declined 0.8% and silver 0.2%. Bullion prices fell due to inflation concerns amid uncertainty about the US-Iran peace deal. US President Donald Trump said on Friday he would soon decide on a proposed deal to extend the ceasefire with Iran, though the two countries still appeared to differ on significant issues that have been central to the conflict, Reuters said.

Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the exchange of messages with the US is ongoing, but that nothing is certain until a deal is finalised, Al Jazeera said. Reopening the Strait of Hormuz and agreeing on Iran's nuclear programme remain key sticking points.

The energy index was up 3%, with crude oil trading 3% higher and natural gas was up 2%. The base metal index was up 0.2%. Aluminium and copper were up 0.5% and 0.1%, respectively. However, lead and zinc were steady.

The MCX iCOMDEX comprises a series of real-time commodity futures price indices and tracks the performance of a basket of commodity futures. It serves as a benchmark for market movements in bullion, base metals, and energy.  End
