MUMBAI – The iCOMDEX Composite index of the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was down in early trade Friday. The index opened at 25756.91 points, largely unchanged from Wednesday's close of 25756.34 points. At 1222 IST, the index was down 0.1% at 25669.55 points.
Among the three components of the Composite index, the bullion index was trading 0.2% lower, as gold declined 0.2% and silver 0.3%. Bullion prices fell due to uncertainty regarding a possible peace deal between US-Iran. Reports indicated that the US and Iran were closing in on an agreement to extend the ceasefire by 60 days. However, US President Donald Trump still needs to approve the memorandum of understanding which extends the ceasefire.
US Vice President J.D. Vance said the US and Iran still need to work out several sticking points before an agreement on the war can be reached, the BBC reported. Asked if US President Trump was close to signing a deal, Vance said it was too early to say "when or if" the two sides would finalise an agreement, the report said. The uncertainty kept markets on edge and weighed on bullion prices, analysts said.
The energy index was down 1.4%, with crude oil trading 2% lower while natural gas was up 0.7%. The base metal index was down 0.2%. Aluminium and copper were down 0.5% and 0.3%, respectively. Lead was down 0.1%, while zinc was up 0.1%.
