NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of all spices traded on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange ended down on Wednesday. Turmeric and coriander prices fell as demand softened at higher rates, while jeera declined on higher supply and weak export demand.

The most-active June contract of JEERA was down 0.3% to INR 19,265 per 100 kilograms amid ample supplies across major producing states and limited demand. Increased arrivals from major markets in Rajasthan as favourable weather conditions allowed harvesting activities to progress faster than expected. In addition, farmers actively released stocks to meet liquidity demands ahead of the kharif sowing season, Kedia Advisory said.

The most-active June contract of TURMERIC was down 0.1% at INR 16,212 per 100 kg. The contract ended lower as demand weakened after the contract hit a one-week high of INR 16,550 per 100 kg earlier in the day. However, the fall was limited amid steady demand from traders to replenish inventories, SMC Global said.

The most-active June contract of CORIANDER was down 1% at INR 12,868 per 100 kg. Prices fell more amid weak purchasing interest at higher price levels. On Tuesday, the contract hit a one-week high of INR 13,170 per 100 kg. In addition, prevailing arrival pressure across key markets is likely to keep prices range-bound for the time being, SMC Global Securities said. However, demand is likely to emerge if prices fall further amid concerns of declining arrivals in Gujarat, it added.

The following were the closing prices of the most active spice contracts on Wednesday:
