MUMBAI – Maximum temperatures and heatwave conditions in most parts of the country are likely to decline from Friday, the India Meteorological Department said. Maximum temperatures in most parts of northwest, central, east, and south peninsular India, along with Maharashtra and Gujarat, are likely to fall by 2–6 degrees Celsius starting Friday, though heatwaves, hot and humid weather, and warm night conditions are likely to persist in many parts of the regions till then, the weather department said.

 

Heatwave conditions to severe heatwave conditions are expected over several parts of northwest India till Thursday, and over some parts of central India till Friday, the weather bureau said. Heatwave conditions are also likely in isolated pockets in Telangana till Friday, the bureau said. Hot and humid weather conditions are expected in parts of Odisha till Sunday, in Gujarat till Thursday, and in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh till Friday. Warm night conditions are very likely to prevail in pockets of Odisha till Thursday, the bureau said.

 

On Wednesday, the southwest monsoon further advanced into more parts of southwest and southeast Arabian Sea, some parts of the Lakshadweep area, some more parts of the Bay of Bengal, and the remaining parts of the Andaman Sea, the weather department said. Conditions are favourable for further advance of the monsoon wave into more parts of southwest and southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, and the Bay of Bengal in the next two to three days.

 

The movement of the monsoon wave has triggered several weather systems over south and east India. These weather systems are expected to cause heavy rainfall over multiple parts of south peninsular India till Tuesday, the weather department said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 kilometres per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are expected over parts of north interior Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh till Friday and over south interior Karnataka till Thursday, the department said.

 

Heavy showers are also expected over most parts of east India till Sunday, the weather bureau said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 kim per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are expected over parts of Gangetic West Bengal till Friday and over Jharkhand and Odisha till Saturday, the bureau said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 60–70 km per hour and gusting to 80 km per hour are likely over Bihar on Thursday and Friday.

 

Moderate to severe thunderstorms with squally wind speeds reaching up to 70 km per hour are likely over parts of northwest and central India from Thursday to Saturday, the weather department said. Higher wind speeds, reaching up to 80–90 km per hour and gusting to 100 km per hour are likely in parts of Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh, Delhi, and west Uttar Pradesh on Friday. Heavy rainfall is also expected over the same regions till Saturday, and over Uttarakhand on Friday, the department said.

 

Hailstorms are expected over parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh, Delhi, and west Uttar Pradesh till Friday and over east Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on Friday. Dust storms are also expected over parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on Thursday and Friday. Hailstorms are also likely over parts of west Madhya Pradesh on Friday and Saturday and over east Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh from Friday to Sunday, the weather department said. 

 

Heavy rainfall is likely to continue over most parts of northeast India till Tuesday, the department said.  End
