MCX iCOMDEX Composite index trades down; bullion index volatile

MUMBAI – The iCOMDEX Composite index of the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was down in early trade Wednesday after opening marginally higher from Tuesday's close. The index opened marginally higher at 25952.50 points against Tuesday's close of 25942.97 points. At 1145 IST, the index was down 0.1% at 25926.84 points.
Among the components of the Composite index, the bullion index was trading volatile with gold prices holding steady while silver rose 0.6%. Gold prices were steady as market participants were assessing the possible outcomes of the US-Iran peace negotiations. US President Donald Trump said discussions to extend the ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz are ongoing, while US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said a final agreement could still take a few days. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Iran said the US had violated a ceasefire by striking targets near the contested Strait of Hormuz, potentially complicating efforts to bring the war to a close.
The energy index was down 2%, with crude oil trading 2% lower and natural gas down 1.4%. The base metal index was up 0.4%. Aluminium and copper were up 0.5% and 0.4%, respectively. Zinc was up 0.4% and lead was steady.
The MCX iCOMDEX comprises a series of real-time commodity futures price indices and tracks the performance of a basket of commodity futures. It serves as a benchmark for market movements in bullion, base metals, and energy. End
